Rough Trade Vinyl & Book Shop Review

What’s cooler than a record shop? Not much, especially if Rough Trade is an example. Step into its slightly dim, fully stocked space and get lost in a world of books, music and beautiful display walls.

Vaguely reminiscent of a museum, the walls are covered in lovingly curated music, ranging from the old to the new, but all very, very cool. A shrine to cult bands and artists, you’re going to see a lot of David Bowie. Hey, you don’t hear us complaining.

Today, though, we came for the books. Rough trade has a great offer, two books for only a fiver. That includes classics, musical autobiographies, novels, you name it. Outside of the offer they have a really great range of books that would make creative, sweet or funny gifts (or just keep for yourself as nice coffee table ware). Our personal fave was the unofficial Jeremy Corbyn Annual. Do yourself a favour and google it.

The records are very much on the pricey side, we’re talking about £20 upwards for most vinyls, but that’s just the price of new pressings these days. Sad times. They have a great range though, so it’s easier to find what you’re looking for than digging through a sale. CDs where a little too pricey in our opinion, you could find cheaper at Fopp.

However, you can’t beat the atmosphere provided by a true indie record shop, which is what Rough Trade is to a T. While away an afternoon browsing there, and see what we mean.

Of course it would be a crime not to mention their infamous live music scene and bar, but that’s another review for another day.

What We Got: Two books for five pounds

What We Wish We Got: Any of their fab vinyl, but especially the Call Me by Your Name soundtrack on vinyl that Emily’s been drooling after since its release.

Rating: 3/5 lemons
